May Day in La Cala de Mijas – Free Sardines and Sunshine!

May 1st is a special day here in Spain – it’s Labour Day, or Día del Trabajador, a national holiday dedicated to workers’ rights, rest, and community. And in true Costa del Sol style, La Cala de Mijas is marking the occasion with a celebration full of sunshine, music, and – of course – free sardines!

This year, the Mijas Town Hall is handing out over 1,000 kilos of espetos (grilled sardines on skewers) at the iconic Torreón de La Cala. Starting at 1pm, locals and visitors can enjoy this delicious Andalusian tradition right on the beach, with live music from Alba Berrocal, Maren, and El Calerito adding to the day's holiday vibe.

It’s the perfect way to experience the laid-back, community-driven spirit of La Cala – great food, great music, and great company.
